Groundwater For Butte is a new political organization formed to hold Butte County's elected officials accountable for risking the private capture of our public groundwater by a new Tuscan Water District.
Though empowered to collect property taxes, TWD's structure makes it likely to be dominated by the biggest growers, many of which are not local family farmers, but corporate entities based far away from here.
If you've found your way to this site, you may already know what's at stake and how dangerous the TWD will be. Consider this website a community gathering spot where we can inform ourselves, share stories, and fight it together.
There is much we can do to stop it, but very little time.
–Join our network - sign up for email alerts. New information will also be posted on the NEWS page, with comments welcome.
–Donate so we can conduct an advertising campaign, provide a point of contact for TWD opponents, and if necessary, prepare for legal action.
–Inform yourself about the TWD and our county's apparent capture by business interests whose goals do not align with the public's.
–Tell our elected officials at meetings, by email or phone, that you oppose their plan.
–And by all means, vote no if they run another election to dress up TWD as something democratic.

We oppose the formation of the Tuscan Water District and demand that Butte County officials step up to their responsibilities under State law. The groundwater belongs to the public and must be managed transparently by publicly elected authorities - not privatized as a "water bank."
